Perge

PERGE

It is one of the best protected ancient cities of Turkey. Name of Perge passes as Parha in a bronze tablet, which is captured in the excavations, made on Bogazkoy, which is the capital city of Hittites. Therefore, it indicated that Perge is also known in Hittite period. It is stated in the epigraph on the sculpture base, which is detected in the place, where oldest entrance gate of the city is located, that Perge is established by Kalchas and Mopsos in B.C. 12th Century after Trojan Wars. Aspendos

Aspendos

Aspendos, It is and ancient city, located within boundaries of Antalya Province and in the eastern direction. According to ancient sources, Aspendos city is established by colonist from Argos, who come here under the leadership of Mopsos. Aspendos city mints the silver coins for its own name in B.C. 5th Century and becomes member of Maritime Union of Athens. City, entering under Alexander the Great rule in B.C. 334, is ruled by Roma through succession upon death of III. Attalos in B.C. 133. Aspendos city also survives as a rich city in Roman period. All of the remains, located in Aspendos, belong to Roman Period and after Roman Period. Theatre building in the city belongs to Roman Empire Age. Side, which an Aeolis Region city, is established by Cymnians according to Strabon. Side means “pomegranate” as a word. Pomegranate motif is located on Side coins from B.C. 500 to Roman period.
