This tour will bring you to the heart of the Ottoman Empire: the residence of the sultans. The Topkapi Palace, since the 1985 an UNESCO world heritage site, has been for three centuries the residence of the Ottoman royal family.
The first part of the tour is dedicated to the visit of the Tombs of the Sultans. Here you will visit a complex of five mausoleums in which very beautiful elements of Ottoman, Islamic and Seljuk arts are combined together for a unique composition.
In the palace, in place of the old kitchen and maintenance rooms there are now some very interesting exhibitions about Ottoman culture, with a particular focus on the military techniques and equipments of the Ottoman army. Further exhibitions are dedicated to the Islamic culture and to the treasures of the Sultan; among the historical relics, some of the spoils of Prophet Muhammed.
The visit to the Palace culminates with the fabulous terrace, by which you will have one of the most beautiful views of the city and the Bosphorous.
After the visit to the Topkapi site, the guide will bring you to one of the hidden treasures of the historical area of Sultanahmet: the church-mosque of the ‘Little Hagia Sophia’. Once an orthodox basilica dedicated to Saint Georges and Bacchus, has been transformed into a mosque after the Ottoman conquer of the city. Our guide will put your focus on the mix of Byzantine and Ottoman-Islamic art that characterizes this authentic jewel.
